My Approach to Counselling

Cobbled street in a historic town with multi-story, old-style buildings and several pedestrians walking or talking.

I am offering an integrative approach to counselling, which means I believe that no single school of thought holds all the answers. There is something valuable and unique to be gained from drawing on different perspectives and techniques within counselling. In the counselling room, I can adopt both directive and non-directive styles, being compassionate and empathetic while also offering gentle challenges when appropriate. My approach is fundamentally curious about your unique story and the particular context in which your experiences have arisen. Rather than giving direct advice or focusing solely on finding quick solutions, our work will centre on exploring the full range of your experiences—including your thoughts, feelings, and how past events may be influencing your present life, as well as shaping your future expectations. I firmly believe that one of the most powerful ways we can bring about meaningful change is through gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves, fostered within a containing and compassionate therapeutic relationship. I have a particular interest in working with shame, how it impacts interpersonal relationships and personal wellbeing. Although I can work with a wide range of presenting issues, some areas I have specific experience or interest in are:

  • Autism

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • LGBTQ+

  • Addiction

  • Identity

  • Relationship issues

  • Death anxiety
